Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, has asked the Federal Government to synergise with the state to resolve the security crisis in the Ibarapa Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Makinde made the request at a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.
Providing details of the meeting on his Twitter handle, the governor said he sought the collaboration of the Federal Government to resolve the security challenges and also control the influx of foreign immigrants into the state.
“I asked for greater synergy between the state and federal security agencies. Also, I requested collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service for proper documentation of foreign nationals working in mines in the state. Mr President promised to look into these issues,” Makinde tweeted.
Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State has been in the news recently following a clash between the indigenes and Fulani herdsmen residing in the area.
The clash occurred after youths said to the followers of Sunday Adeyemo, a Yoruba nationalist popularly known as Sunday Igboho, last Friday attacked the Fulanis, reportedly killing three people and setting ablaze properties in the process, including the house of Salihu Abdukadir, the Seriki Fulani of Oyo.
