A 26-year-old Ghanaian man, Ebenezer Nana Bonsu, has been arrested by the police for battering his three-year-old son for bed-wetting.

Bonsu used cane and a naked wire to create marks on the body of his son, Junior, saying he was being stubborn.
According to Ghanaian media, Bonsu and his son’s mother do not live together.

The boy lived with his mother until April, when she took him to spend time with his father, and also celebrate his 3rd birthday.
The constant abuse the boy suffered in the hands of his father pushed a neighbour to alert his mother, who went to pick the child.

However, she was shocked to see what the man had done to the boy.
The father was arrested, while the boy was taken to the Manhyia Hospital in Kumasi, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Bonsu was arraigned before a Ghanaian court on Thursday for assault and causing harm to a child.

He said he was innocent, and that his actions were only to discipline his son.
His lawyer offered a bail for his release, saying he had been in police custody since his arrest.
The plea was objected to by the prosecutor, Inspector Regina Oparebea Amoako, who said the suspect will be a threat to the victim and his mother.

The judge granted him bail and refused to remand him in custody, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
His trial will commence on May 21, 2020.
