Manchester City winger, Leroy Sane, has damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the club confirmed on Thursday.
The German international limped off in the first half of the FA Community shield against Liverpool at Wembley last week.
Sane has been a summer interest for Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, but the injury seemed to have ended their interest in him.
According to report, the Premier League champions rejected Bayern’s $85 million bid for the former Schalke 04 player, saying they value him at $175 million.
“Manchester City FC can confirm that Leroy Sane has damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,” the club said in a statement on their website.
“The flying winger picked up an injury in the opening stages of City’s Community Shield triumph over Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.
“He has undergone testing throughout the week, with a specialist doctor travelling to Manchester for further examinations to understand the extent of the injury.
“Leroy will have surgery in the coming week. Manchester City will provide Leroy with all the support and guidance he needs, and everyone connected with the Club wishes him a quick and full recovery.”
City kick off their title defense on Saturday against West Ham.
