A man identified as Ibrahim Lawal has committed suicide in Daura, the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari, in Katsina State.

It was learnt that Lawal hanged himself on a tree on Sunday.

The deceased, said to be a middle-aged man, was a worker at the Sandamu Local Government Area of the state, but residing in Daura.

A resident said he saw Lawal on Sunday driving his car towards a mechanic workshop.

“I asked whether he was in the neighbourhood to repair his car, but he said no. He did not say anything afterwards; he just walked away,” the resident told the Punch.

According to residents, they later saw Lawal’s lifeless body dangling from a tree, where he allegedly used a rope to hang himself.

Men of the Daura Police Division were called in to remove the corpse.

The remains of the deceased were buried in Daura on Sunday, according to Islamic rites.
