The unidentified driver said to be on top speed lost control of the Toyota Hilux pick-up van before ramming into a commercial motorcycle that conveyed two persons. The rider died on the spot.

An eye witness alleged that the passenger, a female JAMB candidate later died at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, where she was receiving treatment.

One of the injured victims, James Chima, who spoke to Northern City News on his sickbed, said he was rescued from under the van after it knocked him down. Another victim, Aisha Ikpanago, also a JAMB candidate was said to have just completed registration process before she was hit.

The state police spokesperson, Idrisu Kennedy, who confirmed the incident, noted that the vehicle belonged to a bank and not the police.

“The driver is an employee of the bank and most of the bullion vans are properties of the banks”, he said.

He added that investigation had commenced into the accident.
