A gay man, Robert Kityo faces deportation from the United Kingdom to Uganda, his country of origin, after immigration officials said he has been unable to prove he is gay. The man, who lives in Manchester, has been taken to a deportation centre after his latest attempt to claim asylum was refused by the Home Office. The 35-year-old arrived in the UK with a student visa in 2011 and sought asylum a year after claiming his partner had been jailed in Uganda. He also said a warrant for his arrest had been issued if he returned. More than 1,900 people have signed a petition asking the government to allow him stay in the country. He was released from the centre at Manchester Airport at the weekend after being told that a further inquiry into his case would be made.
