A Grade I Area Court, Dei-dei, Abuja, has sentenced a 37-year-old man, Ibrahim Abdulrasheed to six months imprisonment for stealing a generator.
Abdulrasheed, of no fixed address, was convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty to the charge against him.
He, however, begged the court for leniency.
The Judge, Mr Sulyman Ola, gave Abdulrasheed an option of N25,000 fine, with a warning that he should desist from committing crimes.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that one Ikechuckwu Chukwu, reported the matter at Gwarinpa Police Station on July 23.
Ogada said that Abdulrasheed was caught by the police with a generating set, suspected to have been stolen on the said date.
The prosecution counsel said when Abdulrasheed was interrogated, he confessed that he accompanied a tricyclist, now at large, to carry the generating set.
He added that Abdulrasheed also confessed that the generating set was stolen but could not produce the tricyclist because he did not know him.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 319A of the Penal Code.
