A trader died on Lagos Island on Thursday when he jumped off the Obalende bridge to escape from men of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences who had stormed the area. Reports say the deceased thought the men were targeting him. Eye witnesses also said he landed on the metal barriers of the beautification barriers under the bridge and sustained serious head injuries killing him instantly. The operatives of the taskforce were reportedly attacked by a mob after the incident. It took efforts of the Area Commander on Campbell Street and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) boss, Femi Onasanya to calm them. The body of the deceased, who is said to be from Adamawa state, has been deposited at the Lagos State General Hospital, Lagos Island.
