One David Igbu, an indigene of Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has killed his six-year-old daughter, Gloria, to prove his love for one Anita Abu, from the Obi area of the state.

Igbu is said to have killed his child, whose mother died in 2018 during childbirth of their son, after Abu said she could not live with her, saying she is a member of a cultist and witchcraft group.
The pair met while Igbu enrolled for a part-time diploma programme at the Nasarawa State Polytechnic. They were both romantically involved before Abu got pregnant by him.

The Nation reports that the suspect, a welder by profession, had picked the girl while she was asleep and dumped in the well in their residence on February 12, 2020. A neighbour had raised an alarm after seeing the corpse while he had gone to fetch water the next morning.
Not satisfied with Igbu’s explanation, members of the community vigilante group arrested him and Abu.

Igbu blamed his action on the devil saying his late wife would never forgive him in her grave. He said Abu had always cooked up stories against Gloria, accusing her of being behind her nightmares.
However, Abu denied ordering him to kill his daughter, saying she only told him she could not stay with the girl in the same apartment.

“I told him that if I must marry him, his daughter will have to leave the house, because she always appeared in my dream each time I pass the night in her father’s house,” The Nation quoted her to have said.

She said the late “Gloria may not be a human being, but killing her was not the best option.
