A man who climbed a telecoms mast possibly to commit suicide was convinced to come down from the about 200-feet mast unhurt in Lagos State.
Daniel Chibuike Bassi, who is an aluminium technician, had climbed the mast located close to the Nasfat centre in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, Bassi was said to have arrived at the scene at about 8am and began climbing the scene at about 8:30am.
He was said to have called people around the scene and informed them that he wanted to do a fellowship and started singing gospel songs.
The man, who is said to live in Dopemu, was subsequently taken to the Gowon Estate Police Station, Lagos.
While at the police station, Bassi seemed to be incoherent as he could not comprehensively respond to questions asked of him by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Nigeria Police Force.
He revealed that he never knew the area before but something pushed him to go to the scene.
Bassi also stated he cannot remember his age until he consults some people.
NEMA had to appeal to the police to leave the distressed man to settle down.
