Fight broke out between two casual workers in the Ajao Estate Area of Lagos on Lagos when one of them accused the other of insulting his lover. The men, Raphael Nwoye,25, and Ifeanyi Onuoha, 33, were said to be have been friends but on that particular day, Nwoye put their friendship aside. He was said to have accosted Onuoha a week earlier to warn him to desist from insulting his lover, simply identified as Ngozi. He, however, lost his patience on the said day and rushed to stab him with a knife he had kept in his bag. He stabbed him in his neck and back at Niyi Ogunbameru Street around 8am. He was also said to have stabbed two people who tried to control him. While Onuoha died on the way to the Isolo General Hospital, the other two are said to be receiving treatment.
The suspect was thereafter arrested by the police. An eyewitness who spoke with Punch Metro said the men were labourers who came to the area to offload containers. He said they had been having arguments over the girl but everybody had thought they would settle the matter as they were known to be good friends. He also said Nwoye had tried to escape but had been prevented by people on the scene.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, said the case would be transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation for further investigation. She said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for a post-mortem examination.
