Lagos State Court has remanded a 49-year-old man for stabbing his wife over sachet water.
A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos, has remanded man identified as Lawrence Itakpe, for stabbing his wife to death in Ajah area of Lagos state.
Lawrence Itakpe reportedly killed his wife, Rebecca, 47, at their home in December, 2022.
The couple had reportedly just gotten into an argument about sachet water when the husband, Lawrence, rushed into the kitchen to get a knife with which he used to stab his wife to death.
The defendant allegedly stabbed Rebecca multiple times in the chest and neck, resulting to her death.
Inspector Haruna Magaji, the police prosecutor, said Itakpe was arraigned on the account of murder, an offence punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
Magaji, therefore, asked the court to remand the defendant in custody for 30 days pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Granting the request, the presiding Chief Magistrate, O.Y. Adefope adjourned the case till Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
The couple had been married for 11 years with two children.
