A 23-year-old man, Samuel Pelumi, has allegedly strangled a commercial sex worker, Success Ibeh, in Oyingbo area of Lagos State, inflicting wounds on his victim.
Pelumi, who hails from Kaba in Kogi State, was arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrates’ Court on two counts of sexual assault and battery. He was said to have approached Ibeh at J29 Hotel, Otto, where she lives and works as a prostitute.
The accused had approached his victim to have ‘short time’ sex with her at the price of N1,000 on September 17 around 8 pm. But Ibeh alleged that Pelumi refused to pay after having sex with him.
“I asked him for my money but he didn’t answer me pretending to be listening to the music coming from the hotel. I pushed him out of my way and was about to leave the room when he grabbed me and threw me on the bed. Then he started strangling me and put his hand inside my vagina as if he wanted to draw out my intestine,” Ibeh said.
She added that the hotel manager had heard her screams and forced the door open. Pelumi was subsequently apprehended and handed over to the police.
However, the defendant denied assaulting his victim. He said “ I was still having sex with her when she received a call, she then told me to stop that another customer was waiting for her. But I told her to allow me finish my turn, I only reprimanded her I didn’t assault her.”
The prosecuting officer, Adebayo Oladele told the court that the offence contravened and punishable under Sections 172 and 187 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015. Pelumi however, pleaded not guilty to the crime preferred against him.
The presiding magistrate, O. A. Ajibade, admitted the defendant to a bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned till October 26, 2017.
