Manchester United legend, David Beckham, has said the club should not make it an ambition to play in the second-tier of European club football competition, Europa League.
Beckham, who owns American football club, Inter Miami, said the Manchester United and their fans should not be excited over the possibility of playing in the Europa League final, saying the club should be competing in the UEFA Champions League.
The former Real Madrid midfielder hailed Chelsea and Manchester City for doing very well in the competition this season.
City hold a 2-1 advantage going into the second leg of their semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain next week at the Etihad, while a goalless draw will see Chelsea play in the final of the competition for the third time in 13 years.
“It’s difficult and unfair to comment about what’s going on in Manchester United football club. The reason being is that I have my own Club now, so commenting on other people’s businesses won’t be that great,” Beckham said.
“But don’t worry I am a Manchester united Legend, and I still have a right to comment on issues that are on Manchester united and Real Madrid. To be honest I saw too many excited faces on Thursday night after United thumped Roma, but I was not one of them, why?, the problem is, where did they do this?
“Why they are there in the first place?, it’s simply because they failed to complete in the Uefa Champions League, this is why they found themselves thumping Roma last night, because it’s Europa League .
“My praises are reserved for Manchester City and Chelsea who are currently flying the premier league flag high in the Uefa Champions League tournament. For it’s not exciting at all and not good enough for Man United to keep playing in Europa League.
