Many are feared to have been killed in a fresh clash between herders and farmers in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Southern Kaduna. The violence began when a group of Fulani youths had gone to a village at Ugwan Uka, on Sunday, to revenge the murder of their kinsmen. They allegedly killed five youths accused of killing an alleged Fulani bandit.
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria had, on Saturday, said that four of its members were killed by youths from Kadara and Gwari communities of Kajuru Local Government.
The action irked the Kadara youths who mobilised and attacked Fulani settlements, burning houses and property and also killing 12 in the process. An eyewitness told Punch that many of the killed Fulanis were buried in mass graves, adding that some bodies were recovered from bushes.
Yakubu Sabo, the acting Police Public Relations Officer, said a combined team of police and army personnels were at the scene and had brought the area under control.
