In as much as we had plenty embarrassing memories of our dads; from him getting us Jehovah Witness bags for school, getting us shoes that Prince Charles wore as a kid for us to wear to church in the name of sustainability, commanding us to scrape our heads because it made us look like sharp young men, taking us to his workplace to display us as his beautiful merchandise because that was his way of showing us he was proud and loved us, he also did really memorable things that we think of and smile.
Getting Us Cartoons
While it wasn’t every father that got their kids cartoons to watch or even got decoders for their children to view cartoons on, some of our fathers got us DVD collections of cartoons. It’s why many of us know Cinderella, Sword in the stone, Lady and the tramp, Lion king and more. If your papa no buy you cartoon to watch and you still no get decoder for house, call him now and question him.
Buying Us Our Favorite Snacks From Work
“Daddy Oyoyo” was intensified when we saw our dads coming home with an extra bag apart from his work bag because we knew treats awaited us. It was one of our fun moments, waiting for daddy to return with some munchies.
Coming For Open Day
Even if we were scared the teachers would say something about us that’d put us in trouble when we went home to our parents that day, having our dads come for Open Day was one of our proud moments. It was just pleasing when a classmate would ask “is that your daddy?” and you’d say “yes it is” with an inflated chest because yes, that was your daddy.
Not Being Around
We loved our dads the most when he wasn’t around because that meant freedom. For some of us that were omo get inside, you know you loved your father more when he wasn’t around.
Keep The Change
Some of you didn’t even wait for your fathers to tell you to keep his change. You just automatically pocketed it because he didn’t ask anyway. But everyone loved when their fathers were being generous. You go on errands and because he pitied your little soul, he’d tell you to keep the change for your own sake.
Buying Christmas Food
Christmas celebrations aren’t the same now that almost everyone is adulting but growing up was fun because our fathers always made sure we had enough food to eat during the Christmas holidays.
Buying Us Books
Every Nigerian dad was/is very proud to see their children reading, while this may not be a fun memory for all because you people don’t like reading, some of us liked it when our fathers came home with books because he always wanted to see us reading and talking about the books we read.
Pocket Money
Unlike now that we’re all taking care of ourselves unfortunately, it was so fun having our dads give us pocket money no matter how small it was. Going to school and being certain he’d give you some money was very refreshing because that was your only way to save money.
Just Being Our Dads And Being Present
Yes, having a man to call Father is a very big flex and when he is/was present, it gets even better.
Let’s tell our fathers we love them this Father’s Day and not just today but every chance we get. If you enjoyed reading this, kindly like and share!
