One person has died Wednesday and 23 others infected following the outbreak of Cerebral Spinal Meningitis in Cross River State. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong, said the infected were currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. She said that the decceased, 12-year-old Paul Ogar, was taken to Calabar from Ogoja Local Government Area.
Asibong said the ministry’s swift action had salvaged the spread of the disease. She said that most of the treated have been discharged. She advised residents in the state to prioritise their personal hygiene especially washing of hands, avoiding overcrowded places and direct contact with people coughing or sneezing.
She also urged residents to allow adequate ventilation into their houses, warning anyone who observed any of the symptoms to seek immediate medical attention in the hospital.
She said they were closely working with the Ministry of Health to curb the outbreak as well as get vaccines.
