Lionel Messi has extended his Barcelona contract until 2021. The deal was announced just days after the Argentina captain married his childhood sweetheart in their native country. The deal will be signed in the coming weeks, when Messi returns to the team for pre-season training, the club said in a statement.
Although the details about the contract remain sketchy, Spanish tabloids say it includes a 300 million euro ($340 million) termination clause.
The 29-year-olds previous contract was going to run put in June, 2018.
Messi made his debut at 16 in a friendly against FC Porto before making his Liga debut against Espanyol at 17. He has scored 507 times in 583 official matches for the Catalans.
