Super Eagles skipper, John Mikel Obi, captained Middlesbrough to a third straight Championship win as they beat visiting Stoke City 1-0 on Friday.

Middlesbrough got off to the best possible start thanks to Britt Assombalonga’s 2nd minute goal.

Also in action was Mikel’s international teammate, Oghenekaro Etebo who played throughout the encounter for Stoke.

The win saw Middlesbrough climbed back into the play-off position in sixth on 67 points in the league table with three games remaining in the regular season.

Stoke City are 16th on 52 points and do not face any threat of being relegated into League One (third tier division).

And in another Championship game played on Friday, Semi Ajayi’s Rotherham United’s relegation battle continued following their 4-3 away loss to Swansea City.

Ajayi featured from the start of the game before making way in the 57th minute.

The defeat to Swansea saw Rotherham remain in the drop zone in 22nd spot on 40 points, in the 24-team Championship table.
