Super Eagles skipper, John Mikel Obi, was on target for Tianjin Teda but it was not enough as they lost 4-2 at home against Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League on Sunday.
Mikel scored in the 22nd minute to bring the score to 1-1 after Giovanni Andres Moreno broke the deadlock on 14 minutes.
Also on target for Tianjin Teda was Frank Acheampong while the duo of Jianrong Zhu (brace) and Fredy Guarin got Shanghai Shenhua’s other goals.
Tianjin Teda are now 14th on 28 points, just two points above the relegation zone in the 16-team Chinese league table.
They have now gone 10 straight games without a win in the league (six defeats, four draws).
Mikel’s goal was his second after 18 league games played so far in the current season.
On Saturday, Odion Ighalo continued his impressive scoring form as he got on the score sheet in Changchun Yatai’s 2-1 home loss to Chongqing Lifan.
Ighalo scored with just two minutes remaining in the game to reduce the deficit to take his tally for the season to 21 after 26 league games.
