Garus Gololo, the National Coordinator of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Benue State, has told Senator Bukola Saraki, the Senate President, to immediately resign from his position or would be forced to do so by the group.
According to him, Senator Saraki must resign his position because he has failed to provide solid leadership in the National Assembly and ensure a harmonious working relationship between the executive and legislature.
He noted that the association is looking for a Senate President who would protect their interest and that of Nigerians.
“It is on this note that we are saying that Saraki ought not to be in office again as Senate President, more so, Saraki has failed to coordinate and organise the National Assembly to offer quality legislation that Nigerians need”, Gololo told the Punch on Tuesday.
“Nigerians are in dire need of people that have the interest of the masses. Miyetti Allah is looking for a leader that would preside over the affairs of the Senate with ultimate respect for the executive and the judiciary, not someone like Senator Saraki that would always scheme to outdo the Presidency.
“We are now tired of Saraki’s style of leadership at the National Assembly. Therefore, we are now warning him to honourably resign his position as president of the Senate or we will force him out.”
He, however, did not state how the association, which is not registered as a parliamentary group, would oust Senator Saraki from office should he fail to comply with their demands.
Senator Saraki has been under intense pressure from various individuals and groups to resign his position as the number three citizen of the country following his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in July.
The Senate President has, however, maintained that he will only leave the Senate Presidency position if two-thirds of his colleagues in the upper chamber mandate him to do so.
