Some residents of Oduduwa Crescent, GRA, Ikeja have complained bitterly over the state of the road months after the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration completed the upgrading and reconstruction of some roads in GRA, Ikeja.
In 2021, the Lagos State Government commenced the Ikeja G.R.A Urban Regeneration Project which included the rehabilitation and upgrading of Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa Crescent, Oba Dosunmu and Sobo Arobiodu streets within the Ikeja municipality.
However, months after the completion of the Odududa Crescent road, Newsbreak Nigeria reports that the potholes are back, leaving residents in shock, especially as there is a pothole directly in front of the Sanwo-Olu Campaign office in Oduduwa Crescent.
A lady who works in GRA and doesn’t want her name mentioned said she was shocked at the return of potholes on the road.
According to her, the hardship suffered before and during the rehabilitation process will soon be back if nothing is being done as the potholes will only get bigger.
She said, “I am shocked to see the current state of the road. We went through hell before the government started work on this road. During the construction, it was the same and we thought things would be better after. Now, look at the same roads a few months after completion. Something needs to be done fast before the holes become bigger and life becomes miserable again.”
A commercial bus driver who plies GRA from Ikeja Under Bridge also complained about the state of the road.
According to him, the contractors did a bad job for potholes to have taken over the road within a few months.
“My brother, it is the contractors I blame. You know how it is in government. Everybody wants to make money and just do anyhow job. How do we have potholes on a road, not more than 6 months? The contractors did a bad job and if this is not attended to immediately, God knows how this road will be again in a few years,” he said.
Another resident of the area who spoke with Newsbreak Nigeria said if the rain continues to fall, the road will return to its former state sooner than later.
