The All Progressives Congress, APC, has denied its National Working Committee decided Monday night to zone the senate presidency to the north-central part of the country. Ditto for the post of the House of Representatives speaker, that was speculated to have been zoned to the South-West. The rebuttal put to paid purported claims by associates of Senator Bukola Saraki, a frontrunner for the post and from the north-central state of Kwara. Mai Mala Buni, APC national secretary, in a statement, Tuesday said the party was embarrassed by a report purporting its NWC zoned the key national assembly offices at its Monday meeting.
”The NWC never discussed the issued of zoning at its meeting. Therefore, the report of its decision on zoning is a figment of the imagination of whoever concocted the story,” it said.
He said the story was planted in the media to destablise the party. The party said nothing has changed since the President-elect Muhammadu Buhari said he is ready to work with anyone from any part of the country who occupies any of the principal offices of the incoming National Assembly, including those of the Senate Presidency and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The senate presidency contest has two key candidates – Saraki and Ahmed Lawal, who hails from the north-east, while Femi Gbajabiamila and Dogoro have cast their swords in the ground for the speaker position.
