Ekate John, 55, and her son Isaac Godwin, 20, have been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a co-tenant, by cutting his penis with a knife.
This followed a disagreement between the duo and the complainant, Fabian Owotikwu, which escalated into a fight.
“In the process, John and her son brought out a knife which they used to cut Owotikwu’s private part and inflict injuries on him,’’ Victor Eruada, police prosecutor told the court on Tuesday.
Eruada said that the Owotikwu suffered various injuries.
He told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 15 in the Alakuko area of Lagos state. Eruada added that the offence contravened Section 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
Section 173 prescribes a three-year jail term for assault, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.
But the defendants pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the two-count of conspiracy and unlawful assault preferred against them.
Presiding magistrate, M. I. Dan-Oni, granted them bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum. She said the sureties must provide evidence of two years’ tax clearance as part of the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned till August 20 for further hearing.
