Omoyele Sowore, 2019 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has revealed that his father, David Omoremilekun Sowore, who died 16 years ago, left behind 17 children.
He revealed this while eulogising him in a Facebook post.
Sowore also revealed that his father was his teacher all through primary school and some stages of his secondary school. He described him as an ‘Awoist’, who did not want to give up until education is free.
“My father, David Omoremilekun Sowore, was a great man. He was extraordinary human being who combined fatherhood, community organising and teaching seamlessly. He died 16 years ago after a prolonged battle with stroke! At the beginning, he home schooled me and my younger ones, raised some 20 kids in his lifetime, yes, I am his first child and I have 16 brothers and sisters alive (don’t ask me if I know all their names).
“At a point his classroom was filled with his biological kids, he was also my teacher in primary school and partLy in seconds school. I woke up this morning feeling his presence, as well as his absence, I at least wish he was around to witness what he envisioned for us and the kind of society he dreamt about and how, as an Awoist, he urged not to give up until EDUCATION was free.
“I thought to let him know we miss him. We never had a chance to go on holidays him or even hug him, there wasn’t time! We lived under the same roof, he checked on us every night to be sure we are ok, by the next morning he was up and ready to go to work so that we could all be alright in life, he did his part in his own small corner of the world. We love you, Bami!” he wrote.
