Abba Dabo, an aide to Nigeria’s former vice president Namadi Sambo has disclosed that he received N25 million from Olisa Metuh, who is currently being prosecuted for his role in the arms deal scam. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigned Dabbo before a court, where he claimed to have returned the money Metuh gave to him to the anti-graft agency. The EFCC had discovered that Metuh, a spokesman for out-of-power Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, received N400 million in curious circumstances from ex-national security adviser Sambo Dasuki, who also is facing prosecution for embezzlement of $2.1 billion meant to buy arms and ammunition to fight Islamic fundamentalists in terror-infested Nigeria’s north-east. Dabbo, journalist and, once, an aide to Nigeria’s former President Shehu Shagari, explained that he was paid to build a website to promote former President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid. He claimed to have created a media support system and a website called “WhatsApp Nigeria” to run Jonathan’s media campaign then.
“I raised a team of facilitators and young internet experts were also employed to manage the website,” Dabo stated. Trial judge Okon Abang adjourned further hearing in the corruption case till 9 February.
