The National Association of Nigerian Students, (NANS) on Monday congratulated Professor Folasade Ogunsola on her appointment as the new 13th Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Her appointment was announced last Friday by the UNILAG governing council.
As the 13th substantive VC of the institution, she will succeed Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the current VC whose five-year tenure elapses in November this year.
NANS in a statement signed by the union’s Public relations officer, Comrade Giwa Yisa Temitope, and made available to Newsbreak Nigeria stated that the appointment is a well-deserved one.
NANS congratulatory message reads thus, “It gives me great pleasure to extend my warmest congratulations to Professor Folashade Tolutope Ogunsola on your emergence as the 13th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos. It is also historic to mention that you have become the first woman to pilot the affairs of the institution 60years after its Establishment.
“This is a well-deserved appointment, as your wealth of experience as a former Provost College of Medicine and Acting Vice Chancellor as well as your commendable engagement within and outside the university community has prepared you for this enormous responsibility.
“This appointment is a clear deposition of the wealth of experience you have gathered over the years in your chosen profession. The loyalty, discipline, dedication to duty, and selfless service you have exhibited have not gone unnoticed which has culminated in your esteemed appointment. As a renowned academic, there is no doubt that you will bring your expertise as a scholar and manager of people to bear in your new role as the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
“It is our hope and expectation that you will put your leadership skills to bear and continue to make the university a pacesetter in the nation’s educational sector. We are confident that with your leadership, the university will continue to produce great men and women that will bring about a better Nigeria and also improve the world at large.
“I wish to assure you that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) would continue to support, collaborate and strengthen their relationship with the University. As you begin your journey on this path of leadership, we wish you the Strength and wisdom to Succeed.
