Following the refusal of Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, to release the imprisoned student of Federal University Duste, FUD ,Aminu Adamu Bello, who was arrested and tortured for publishing a social media post mocking the president’s wife, the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has announced that it will launch a nationwide protest on Monday, December 5, 2022.

Making this disclosure in a statement seen by Newsbreak Nigeria on Thursday, the student union said the protest was against Aisha Buhari and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Bab.

“Sequel to the exhaustion pf all options available to us before confrontation in seeking the freedom of one of us who was arrested in questionable manner, tortured, molested, harassed, and detained by agents of the government, you are hereby notified of the decision of the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students to proceed on a nationwide protest,” the statement read.

The union further stressed that their demonstration will continue until Bello is unconditionally released.

Earlier this year, Muhammad, a final-year student in the FUD department of environmental management, was detained by the police after allegedly mocking Aisha in a tweet.

“Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi,” reads the tweet, which was published in Hausa in June 2022.

The tweet from Muhammad, which included a picture of Aisha, roughly translates as “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full.”

Reports on Wednesday, however, details that the student had been remanded in prison.
