The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested two men, Michael Okwuma and Chidiebere Nwajagu, for allegedly smuggling cocaine into the country. The men were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja on their arrival from Brazil. They had concealed 6.6 kilogrammes of cocaine in wooden frames and whiskey bottles. Okwuma said he was deceived into the business by a man in Brazil who asked him to help him deliver a bag to relatives in Nigeria. He claimed to have met the man, who had been of help to him and his family, in Sao Paulo where he works in a supermarket. He also said he was given $3,000 to do the job. The other suspect, Nwajagu, said a friend here in the country had introduced him to the trade when they met in Lagos.
The NDLEA Commander at the airport, Ahmadu Garba, put the value of the drugs at 59 million naira. He said the suspects would be charged to court soon.
