The newly elected Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) President Chief Tonobok Okowa has affirmed that his mandate as President would be to prioritise athletes and coaches’ welfare.
Okowa made this assertion during his acceptance speech after he was unanimously elected in Abuja on Monday.
“First of all, my mandate is all about the athletes and coaches, we’ll make sure we give them an enabling environment to succeed, we will give priority to welfare package. We have to draw up our programmes and ensure we do proper budget especially the one that will favour the athletes and coaches and ensure they excel,” said Okowa, who is also the chairman of Delta State Sport Commission,
The newly elected executive assured that they will work in unison with all zones to fulfill their mandate.
Meanwhile, the new board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN led by Chief Tonobok Okowa will be inaugurated on Tuesday at the media center of the Moshood Abiola National stadium, Abuja.
A statement by the Secretary General of the AFN Prince Adisa Beyioku said “The inauguration of the AFN will commence from 10am by the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare at 10am on Tuesday June 15, 2021 at the media center of the Moshood Abiola National stadium”.
The President of the Nigerian Olympic Committee, Engineer Habu Gumel will also grace the inauguration.
Chief Tonobok Okowa was elected president of the AFN at an elective.
