Rabi Ismail, a Kannywood actress, has been re-arrested six years after her escape from prison. Ismail, who was convicted to die by hanging over the murder of her then boyfriend, mysteriously disappeared from the Hadeija Prison, in Jigawa state. Her escape – which occurred without her breaking the walls or locks – was believed to have been aided by senior prison officials.
Ismail was re-arrested by the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Prisons Service and the Department of State Services.
Francis Enobore, spokesperson for Nigerian Prison Service, NPS, explained a High Court, in Kano, convicted Ismail for killing her boyfriend, Auwalu Ibrahim, in order to covet his property.
Ja’afaru Ahmed, Controller General of Prisons, hailed the security agencies for capturing the fugitive.
He appealed to members of the public to continue to provide useful information on escaped prisoners.
