Nigerians from different walks of life have donated the sum of N1 million to Sunday Erhabor, the police officer who is being widely commended for remaining calm in the face of provocation and assault following an altercation in Lagos State.
Erhabor, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos Police Command, has been widely celebrated after a now-viral video emerged on social media, showing him attempting to arrest one Victor Ebhomenyen for driving against the traffic in the Oniru area of the state, but was assaulted and inflicted with severe bodily injuries.
Erhabor’s conduct led to commendation from various Nigerians, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, who gave him a “Governorship Handshake” and also presented a state plaque to him as a mark of honour to appreciate his commitment to promoting core values of modern policing.
To appreciate him for his conduct, some Nigerians on social media started a donation for the officer for maintaining calm in the face of assault.
The donation, which was started on Sunday by a Facebook user, Ugo Egbujo, had a total of 158 donors who raised N1 million for Erhabor.
Erhabor confirmed the receipt of a N1 million cheque issued in his name on Wednesday.
“I received a cheque of one million naira this afternoon. I feel so excited and I thank all Nigerians. This shows to me that Nigerians have not lost hope in the police,” the officer told the Punch.
