Shehu Sani, senator who represented Kaduna Central in the eighth assembly, has described Nigeria’s independence day celebration as a government affair.
Nigeria marks its 61st independence on Friday.
Sani, in a Facebook post on Thursday, said the day is only commemorated by government officials from the ruling party who organise series of events to “celebrate power”.
He wrote: “Nigeria’s Independence Day is a government officials affair, where the establishment, their friends and members of the ruling part roll out series of events to happily celebrate power in the name of celebrating the country. And they want the rest of the people to share their joy.”
The country is currently facing one of the toughest times in its history.
Nigeria is facing one of the highest inflation, as well as pervasive insecurity since independence.
