The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, has stressed that Nigeria’s youthful population has helped in the fight against the deadly disease.

Sani Aliyu, PTF National Coordinator, said this during an appearance before a joint senate committee on health and aviation.
Aliyu noted that the situation played a major in reducing the infection rate across the country, compared to most developed countries with higher number of older population, where the virus has killed hundreds of thousands of people.

He also stated that the aggressive approach against the pandemic in Africa also helped in containing the disease.
“Demographically, only 3 per cent of Nigerians are above the age 65 as against 20 per cent, 18 per cent, etc, of such populations in European and American countries where death casualties were high.

“Aggressive nature of African countries against the pandemic also helped tremendously in containing the spread of the pandemic in Nigeria and many of the African Countries, ”Aliyu said.
