The Cross River State Government has accused employees of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), of charging National Identification Number (NIN) applicants in the state N2,000 each.
Andrea Ekeng Inyang, the Special Assistant to the state governor, Ben Ayade, on Strategic Communication, accused the enrollment centres in Calabar, the state capital, of extorting residents in a Facebook post.
He wrote: “NIN registration centers in Calabar are charging N2,000 each per registration. 100 registration a day is N200,000 Thieves!”
This is coming barely 24 hours after the Federal Government suspended some employees in Bauchi and Kaduna centres accused of extortion.
