Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Emmanuel Kachikwu , has said that free cylinders will be distributed to every He made this known at the ministerial screening on Wednesday. He also said that nearby gas depots will be provided as well, for everyone’s comfort and to gradually, phase out the use of kerosene in the country.
“Next year, we are going to lunch a programme that will give free cylinders to every Nigerian citizen. Once we do that, we begin to move out from kerosene. Until we do that, kerosene is still the bread and butter of the average Nigerian family in terms of cooking.”
“What we are doing right now is do an interim, holistic but firm and forcasted management in the sector to ensure that our citizen don’t suffer.”
According to him, the importation of kerosene is solely done by NNPC because it is quite expensive and no company can import it and make money. This, he figured is why gas has to replace kerosene as the primary cooking fuel in the country.
“If the refineries work, we produce more kerosene. If you begin a good deforestation and afforestation programme, you can begin to slide people away from kerosene. So it’s absolutely essential that gas goes all over the country.”
