Former Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan has denied being on exile in Cote d’ Ivoire as reported by a national daily. Jonathan reportedly clarified that his purported exile was a ploy to implicate him in the persistent attacks on oil pipelines by a hardline Niger Delta militants group, the Niger Delta Avengers. Another newspapers claimed the ex-Nigerian leader said to it on the phone: “I’m not on exile. I have no cause to go on exile. It is a wicked and malicious report.
“I was Vice President for two years and President for six years. I did everything I could and I served my country very well. This is what they keep saying anytime I’m outside the country. I was in Ecuador; they said I was on exile. This is my second time in Cote d’Ivoire and I’m rounding off my visit.
“It is a wicked attempt to link me with the renewed Niger Delta crisis.”
Also, a former assistant of Jonathan, Reno Omokiri tweeted the ex-president was on “multi city speaking tour” and will be back into the country soon. The former aide added that Jonathan “has no link to violence”.
Also, it was claimed a security arm in the country had dispatched a team to investigate whether or not the former president sought asylum in the Francophone country and for what possible reason.
