Pro-Buhari supporters in Abuja on Wednesday countered the narrative of the #EndSARS protesters, insisting that no life was lost at the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, 2020.
Members of the pro-Buhari group stormed the Unity Fountain, Abuja, where the #EndSARS Protesters converged earlier on Wednesday to commemorate the first-year memorial of the protest.
In October 2020, Nigeria had witnessed nationwide protests led by Nigerian youths across the country, demonstrating against police brutality committed by the now-disbanded special anti-robbery squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
It, however, came to an agonising end on October 20, 2020, after some soldiers of the Nigerian Army shot at a crowd of protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate Plaza in Lagos State.
But the supporters of the president held placards and large banners with inscriptions such as ”#EndSarsProtest; Lekki shooting was a hoax”, and ”Nobody died at Lekki tollgate”.
Okpokwu Ogenyi, leader of the pro-government group, said the #EndSARS protesters have been attempting for the past one year to denigrate the Buhari administration.
He said: “We shall no longer keep quiet while unscrupulous elements are trying to blackmail the Buhari government.
