Some northern governors converged on Kano State on Saturday, for the wedding of one of the sons of Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, just as the burial of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other officers who died in an air crash was taking place in Abuja.
A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Beechcraft 350 carrying Attahiru and some senior military personnel crashed near the Kaduna International Airport on Friday night, killing everyone onboard.
The officers were buried at the National Military Cemetery.
The governors which include those of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi and Gombe State governor, Muhammad Inuwa, were present at the wedding of Abiru Rahman Malami, second son of the minister, who got married at Alfurqan Juma’at mosque in Kano.
Military operations are currently ongoing in Sokoto and Zamfara over activities of bandits who have sacked many villages.
President Muhammadu Buhari and vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, were also absent at Attahiru’s funeral, a development that has raised eyebrows.
