The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday, disclosed that it was a deliberate move by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to upload the 2023 presidential election results on its portal.
Mohammed disclosed this in Washington DC, United States, during his official engagements with some international media organisations.
He said, “What happened on the 25th of February was that INEC observed that the results of the presidential election were not being viewed,” the minister said.
“INEC, suspecting cyberattack, withheld the uploading of the results in order to preserve the integrity of the data.
“It immediately proceeded to float an alternative platform while asking its technicians to investigate what happened to its original portal.”
The major opposition parties, the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic during the collation of the presidential results, called for the cancellation of the polls citing INEC’s refusal to upload results to its server.
The commission also declared Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the election.
