The National Universities Commission(NUC), has reportedly scrapped Mass Communication Degree in Nigerian universities.
The development means there will no longer be Mass Communication as a degree programme in universities across the country.
The NUC said it has unbundled the course into seven separate degree programmes, in order to meet present day demand, Daily Independent reports.
The university regulatory body said this will take effect from 2020 admissions year.
The report said Professor Abubakar Rasheed, NUC Executive Secretary, in a chat with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, said Mass Communication has been unbundled into Media Studies, Public Relations Studies, Cinematography, among others.
The seven new Programmes/Departments, to be domiciled in a Faculty / School / College of Communication and Media Studies are; Journalism & Media Studies; Public Relations; Advertising; Broadcasting; Film & Multi-Media Studies; Development Communication Studies and Information & Media Studies.
