A former stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Babatunde Gbadamosi, has called for the arrest and dethronement of the traditional ruler of the Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, Saheed Ademola Elegushi (Oba Elegushi).

He made the call on Twitter following news that the Oba had fixed the Oro cult ritual on election day, Saturday, March 18.

However, Gbadamosi, now a member of the Labour Party, called on all “Law-Abiding registered voters in ALL parts of Eti-Osa LGA, especially Ikate, to come out and exercise their right to vote on Saturday 18th March 2023.”

He tweeted, “Saheed Elegushi needs to be arrested and dethroned for DESECRATING our culture and traditions by this political action. I hereby enjoin ALL Law-Abiding registered voters in ALL parts of Eti-Osa LGA, especially Ikate, to come out and exercise their right to vote on Saturday 18th March, 2023. Any attempt to stop ANYONE from voting in any part of Ikate will have extremely serious consequences for the perpetrators and their sponsors.”

In a letter signed by Oba Elegushi, the monarch had announced that the Oro rite will hold from Wednesday to Saturday while warning residents and passersby to stay indoors and “co-operate and comply with the announcement.”
