A pro-Buhari group, the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO), has slammed former president Olusegun Obasanjo over his recent comments against the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he (Obasanjo) created instability in government while he was in power.
The BMO said this in a statement issued by Niyi Akinsiju, its Chairman; and Cassidy Madueke, its Secretary, following Obasanjo’s comments to South-West leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a courtesy visit that the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, still remains a better option than President Buhari.
The BMO dismissed the former president’s comments, describing it as “ridiculous and contemptible.”
The pro-Buhari group stated that President Buhari used his first term to lay a solid foundation for Nigeria, adding that the tenure was not characterised by controversial actions and decisions that occurred during Obasanjo’s eight years as president.
It noted that the incumbent president has allowed the National Assembly and state governors to function independently, contrary to the era of Obasanjo, which it alleged was fraught with alleged imposition.
The statement read, “We note that while President Muhammadu Buhari has used his four years in office to lay a solid foundation for Nigeria’s sustainable growth, Obasanjo as Nigeria’s President for eight years created instability by removing senate presidents and state governors at will.
“It should be restated that throughout Buhari’s four years in office, we have not witnessed a state of emergency in any state, and neither has the administration masterminded the unceremonious removal of the Senate President or any state governor.
“We also recall that Obasanjo’s era was characterised by unbridled corruption at the National Assembly.”
The organisation said it considered it unwarranted for Obasanjo to deride Buhari, describing his outburst as a distraction which must be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.
