Aisha Yesufu, an activist, outspoken in calling for good governance has come under fire for saying that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) must outline his strategy for dealing with police brutality.
Yesufu, an Obi supporter, cited a tweet from activist Rinu Oduala in which she questioned the candidate for the LP’s plan to address the problem.
Under the banner of the #EndSARS movement, young people from all over the nation demonstrated against police brutality for about two weeks in October 2020.
The Nigeria Police Force’s (NPF) special anti-robbery squad (SARS) was disbanded as a result of the protests.
Additionally, states were requested to establish judicial panels of inquiry to look into instances of police brutality across the nation.
Yesufu stated in a tweet sent out on Saturday that the LP presidential candidate “must” offer his proposals for addressing police brutality.
“Peter Obi MUST respond with an explanation of how he intends to address police brutality. There are no ifs or buts about it!,” tweeted Yesufu.
Her comment came shortly after Peter Obi’s campaign team listed an EndSARS apologist on his presidential campaign train.
However criticiing the activitist, many supporters alleged that she has been compromised.
populary Nigerian journalist, David Hundeyin alleged that Yesufu was a supporter of president Muhammadu Buhari.
“Lost count of the number of times I’ve pointed out that madam clench-fist Hijabi was and is a staunch Buharist and a very dangerous person. Just because someone speaks passionately and knows the activist positioning hustle doesn’t make them a good person. Bur what do I know,” he wrote.
“And Peter Obi must not answer everyone tweets. He has already tweeted how he will tackle Police Brutality and held many live interviews to address that too which Rinu and everyone of us have seen. So why asking him again how he will handle police brutality? Abeg let him focus,” another twitter user wrote.
