The Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare, who has deemed it fit to watch virtually every game of Team Nigeria in Tokyo, was in the stand again to cheer D’Tigress up, although they lost the match in question but was full of praises of the Team.
Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on Tuesday lost 81-72 to the United States in their opening game at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The Nigerian ladies put up a brave fight in the encounter as they lost only by eight points on Tuesday, as against the 31 points difference in the 93-62 scoreline in which they lost to the Americans recently in an exhibition game in the run-up to the competition.
“I watched the game from the start to the end. Every moment, I saw players who can fight and they fought. From 20 points disadvantage, I saw them climbed back steadily, the height and built of the Americans notwithstanding,” Minister Dare said.
The sports minister believes the next game of Nigeria will be a better one , adding that “I trust these girls. They are like a family. Going up against the Americans like they did, our team is good and can be better.”
D’Tigress will face France in their next game on Friday.
