Nigeria’s D’Tigress lost their second Preliminary Round Group B fixture to France 62-87 on Friday at the ongoing 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
D’Tigress had hoped to find a better result after losing their first game to the tournament’s favourite, the United States of America, but were heavily dominated and thrashed by their French counterparts.
Nigeria lost the first three quarters; 18-12, 26-15, 23-15 and drew the fourth 20-20, falling to the superior shooting power of the fifth-best female basketball team in the world.
France lost 74-70 to Japan on Tuesday in a game the Japanese, with an average height of 5’9” churned out a gritty defensive display accompanied by some ruthless three-point shooting.
The Nigerian team, coached by the US-born Otis Hughley, were unable to replicate their spirited display in their first game against France as they missed many field shots and three-pointers.
