Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi failed to secure a medal in the men’s shot put at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics as he finished in the last position in the final on Thursday.
Enekwechi’s best attempt of a 19.74 metres throw in his third attempt was not enough to help him secure progress to the latter stages of the final, ending up in the 12th position after just three throws.
The Nigerian had a failed throw in his first attempt and got a throw of 18.87 metres in his second attempt.
Enekwechi’s result comes a day after he posted a now-viral Tik-Tok video of him washing his jersey after his qualification heat.
According to the athlete, he was given only one jersey for the entire Olympics.
The video got many Nigerians riling against the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and sports administrators in the country.
America’s Ryan Crouser won the event’s gold medal with an Olympic record of a 23.30 metres throw in his sixth and final effort.
The 28-year-old Crouser led a repeat of the Rio 2016 podium, with compatriot and world champion, Joe Kovacs taking silver with 22.65 metres, and New Zealand’s Tomas Walsh claiming bronze with 22.47 metres throw.
