The conviction of Doyin Okupe, the director general of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign council, prompted a response from Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex- president, Goodluck Jonathan.
Reno Omokri urged the Labour Party candidate was urged to modify the name of his campaign train to “Ali Obi and the 40 Thieves”.
“I hope Nigerians now understand why different Labour Party State chairmen have been suspended for stealing money. Look at who is at the head of the campaign. Okupe. A convicted criminal. Peter Obi should change the name of his campaign to Ali Obi and the 40 Thieves!” he wrote
“A convicted money launderer is the person that Peter Obi wants to use to clean up Nigeria? No wonder he met an empty stadium in Kogi. Nigerians know he is not serious. You want to clean up Nigeria? You Obi with your Pandora Papers and your convicted money launderer?” he added.
His remarks follow Okupe’s conviction for money laundering by the Federal High Court of Abuja. A N500,000 fine or two years in prison are the options offered to the Labour party campaign director.
