Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor of Ondo State, has named Lucky Ayedatiwa, a former board member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), as his running mate for the October 10 governorship election in the state.
Governor Akeredolu announced this at the swearing-in ceremony of a new commissioner, Idowu Otetubi, in Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Ayedatiwa, a former representative of the state on the NDDC board, hails from the Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
The governor said he picked Ayedatiwa after wide consultations with key stakeholders, including leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and the national body.
He said his running mate possessed verifiable credentials that qualified him for the position.
If Akeredolu wins the election for a second term in October, Ayedatiwa will replace Agboola Ajayi, the incumbent Deputy Governor of the state, who was the APC deputy governorship candidate.
Ajayi recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a bid to contest against Akeredolu, but lost to Eyitayo Jegede in the party’s governorship primary.
