Rotimi Akeredolu, the incumbent governor of Ondo State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is in early lead, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have begun announcement of results from the state’s gubernatorial election held on Saturday.
After announcement of results from 12 Local Governments, the governor, who is seeking re-election, has recorded 178,854 votes.
His closest challenger, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has recorded 141,083 votes.
Akeredolu also won nine out of the first 10 local governments that were announced.
Another major contender, the state’s deputy governor and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi, has recorded 32,060 votes so far.
According to Channels Television, INEC officials are expected to reconvene by 9.00am on Sunday, to announce the results from the remaining six local governments and, subsequently, the eventual winner of the election.
